    This training event is aimed at providing farmers and other land managers with the basic information surrounding controlled burning as a management measure, and will cover the following:

    Forestry is an interesting diversification investment for those looking for an environmentally sound home for their money. Making Woods Work, the woodland economy development project being run by Rural Development Initiatives for the National Forest Company, has organised a ‘Local to Global Woodland Investment Seminar’ for those in the financial advisory or land management sectors.

    Aim: To provide the trainee with an introduction to fire behaviour and suppression
    techniques and strategies.

  • Woodfuel Quality Standards

    This one-day introductory level training course will equip you with the knowledge of wood fuel quality and standards that you need, delivered by leading experts.
    You will learn how to: make sure your organisation’s biomass project runs smoothly from the start; understand the range of standards for wood fuels; appreciate the different properties of wood fuel; specify wood chip and pellet fuel; assess which type of wood is appropriate for your combustion system; recognise the importance of quality assurance and labelling.

    A one day seminar where experts from research, policy and industry will outline the challenges and opportunities for forestry and timber businesses presented by climate change.  

  • Woodchip Corral Seminar

    PLEASE NOTE:  THIS EVENT SHOULD HAVE RUN ON 30 NOVEMBER 2010 BUT, DUE TO POOR WEATHER, HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR 14 DECEMBER 2010.

    Making Woods Work is a project being run on behalf of the National Forest Company and is co-hosting a Woodchip Corral Seminar with the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust at High Tor Farm, Coalville on the morning of14th December from 9.30 to 11.30, where a bacon butty breakfast will be served before hearing and seeing how woodchip corrals are created and used.

  • Ignite: Woodfuel Production and Supply

    The three day ‘original’ course consists of four modules and a mix of classroom theory and outdoor site visits. Over the 3 days of the course, we will cover:

    • The Woodfuel Resource
    • Woodfuel Systems
    • Woodfuel Technology
