Mobile Sawmilling
This practical one day course will cover the introduction of candidates to mobile sawing techniques and the pros and cons of different methods of conversion. It will ensure all candidates are conversant with Health & Safety procedures. It provides an insight into the timber value stream for UK woodlands and provide the candidates with a strong foundation in the skill of mobile bandsaw operation in a commercial environment.

Pest and Pest Control
The aim of the course is for Woodland owners and managers to recognise the presence of mammals and signs of damage. To evaluate the severity of the problem, consider appropriate protection measures and to integrate woodland planning and design to manage damage levels.

Ignite Woodfuel Training – Brecon Beacons National Park
Ignite was developed in the North East of England in 2004 and since then has grown into the UK’s only integrated woodfuel training course leading to a recognised qualification from Lantra Awards. Over 500 people have benefitted from the Ignite course, which is delivered by a team of experienced and enthusiastic trainers.

Day 1
Session 1 – Setting the Scene
The course begins with an overview of the days objectives and an introduction to the tutors and the 3 day programme.
Introduction to Woodfuel
The Ignite one-day seminar is designed to introduce those working with farms and estates to the opportunities provided by woodfuel for self-supply from woodland and forest resources and the chance to look beyond estate boundaries to other opportunities in the renewable energy sector. The seminar introduces the concept of renewable energy and looks in more detail at the opportunities afforded by woodfuel including woodfuel heating technologies and woodfuel processing and handling equipment. The seminar also involves a visit to a working woodfuel boiler system.

to your woodlands, understanding overlap and how to apply. Grants
covered will include Forestry Commission’s England Woodland Grant
Scheme and Natural England’s Environmental Stewardship schemes.
