Scottish Forest and Timber Technologies North East Regional Meeting

The next SFTT North East Group (formally known as North East Forest Industries Cluster – NEFIC) is due to take place on 29th March 2011 and will focus on the carbon offsetting benefits forestry can have on land management operations.

Knock Farm site visit: 4pm – 5.30pm
Roger Polson will show us demonstration carbon offsetting woodlands currently in operation on the farm and explain how these fit with his management operation. Steff Ferguson (formally FWAG) will also be present to discuss her recently completed Carbon Case Study of the farm and answer any questions.

Huntly Auction Mart: 6pm – 9pm
Following the site visits delegates are invited to have soup and sandwiches back at Huntly Auction Mart where further discussions and presentations will take place.

Speakers will include Jim Reilly who is Woodlands Consultant with Scottish Agricultural College and will talk about forest economics in respect to climate change and how additionality can be calculated into land value changes.

Matthew Young from Forestry Commission Scotland will also provide information on the new Woodland Carbon Code and how to understand carbon stored in woodlands and forests.

It is anticipated the event will encourage farmers, foresters and landowners to think of the benefits forests and woodlands can play in the carbon offsetting and promote discussion around current issues.
