Cumbria Woodlands- Water Quality Information Event
20/05/2014
Event Details
This year’s Cumbria Woodland Forum will focus on Water Quality. There has never been a more important time to understand and consider the role of forestry in providing and protecting water quality. During the next Rural Development Programme, the Forestry Commission grants focus on water and biodiversity. This is combined with increased risk posed by harvesting on catchments as a result of P ramorum on Larch.
The afternoon will focus on giving both the theoretical understanding combined with practical techniques you need to work on sensitive sites.
Speakers include:
John Gallacher– Forest Ecologist with UPM Tilhill. Diffuse pollution: Prevention or Prosecution?
Vince Carter– Climate Change Advisor, Forestry Commission England. UKFS Forests and Water Guidelines
Trevor Marsh– Senior Environment Officer, Environment Agency. Water Framework Directive and Forestry
Vicky Bowman- Woodland Officer, United Utilities. Forestry Best Practice on Catchments
Following the formal presentations there will be a site visit to look at how this can be interpreted on harvesting sites. The event is £10 per person.
The afternoon starts with lunch at 12.00 noon at the United Utilities office at Thirlmere, CA12 4TQ.
