West Yorkshire Working Woodlands

October 17, 2008

Yorwoods are now six months into a three year programme of support for woodland owners in West Yorkshire. The project will provide advice, information and guidance for woodland owners to help them bring the significantly untapped woodland resource of West Yorkshire back into productive management.

Ben Scotting, project manager of West Yorkshire Working Woodlands said, ‘This is a significant opportunity for the woodland resource of West Yorkshire.  There are some 10,000ha of woodlands in the county, a large proportion of which are not being managed to their full potential.  We have already seen a strong interest from local authority woodland owners and we are keen to engage more private woodland owners.

As well as support for woodland owners the project will be working with businesses, providing advice, training and access to funding streams.  To support the rapidly expanding interest in woodfuel harvesting, production and supply an Ignite training course is being run in Bradford from 31 March to April 2 2009.  Contact Ben Scotting for more information.
