Grown in Britain Certification Event

April 19, 2016

The Grown in Britain (GiB) brand identifies wood that has been grown in Britain and which is assured as being from sustainable and legal sources.  It provides assurance that it’s from forests that are managed in accordance with the UK Government’s Forestry Standard and public procurement standard – the UK Timber Procurement Policy.

A Northern England GiB Group Scheme has been created and is run by Rural Development Initiatives Limited, under the Roots to Prosperity and SIMWOOD projects, on a not-for-profit basis, for an initial 12 month period.  Initially focusing attention on woodland owners and producer-traders of woodfuel and firewood (businesses, farms and estates who source local timber, process it into firewood and sell it locally) and small to medium scale local softwood and hardwood saw millers.

The objective is to support the mobilisation of timber from small and undermanaged woodlands by creating a market pull.  By working with regional firewood and other woodfuel producer-traders and small to medium scale softwood and hardwood saw millers to adopt the GiB brand on their products, it is hoped that domestic markets in particular will see the brand as offering a premium product – that of sustainably sourced locally grown timber.

RDI has organised a launch event of the GiB North England Group Scheme on the 18th May 2016. The details of the meeting are as follows:
