New grant scheme announced for forestry equipment

November 11, 2011

Defra yesterday announced the launch of the new Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme (FFIS) – a £20 million pound project to support the farming and forestry sectors until 2013.

In the North East Northwoods have been delivering grant support to forestry businesses and woodland owners since 2008 through the RDPE bioeNErgy programme. 58 businesses have benefitted from over £1.4 million grant funding; with private match funding this has generated a £4.4 million investment in equipment and infrastructure in the region. The new national FFIS scheme will fund much of the forestry and woodfuel processing equipment that has been grant aided to date – continuing where the bioeNErgy scheme left off to support ongoing growth and investment in our region.

Northwoods will continue to support businesses to access this grant funding. More information can be found on the Defra or RDPE websites as below, with the first round of applications open from November 16th – January 17th.
