ENGAGING ARBORICULTURAL CONTRACTORS WORKSHOP – 14 March 2012

January 19, 2012

The Health and Safety Executive in partnership with Treevolution and the Arboricultural Association are holding a workshop on 14 March 2011 at Lantra House, Stoneleigh Park, nr Coventry CV8 2LG.

Arboriculture is high-risk work despite the comparatively small number of people employed in the industry, the fatal and non-fatal injury rates exceed those of agriculture and construction, with11% of fatalities in agriculture involving tree work. It is for this reason that HSE, in partnership with key industry stakeholders, has developed a workshop for those involved in the procurement, management and monitoring of contractors of arboricultural services.

The programme (one full day), will comprise presentations and practical demonstrations covering a broad range of topics, from the Health and Safety Regulations to the top causes of death and injury, (i.e. working at height, access into trees, moving around in trees and descent from trees).

Each practical demonstration will show examples of good practice – they will also help you to spot and deal with potential dangers.

The workshop offers an excellent opportunity to get practical advice from expert, industry based instructors; and will provide you with the key questions to ask to determine whether your contractors comply with current legislative requirements.

Previous workshop participants have told us that attendance at a workshop has prompted them to make at least one change to improve health and safety management; and that they would recommend them to others.

The workshop is free of charge and includes a light lunch.  As the afternoon sessions will take place outdoors, it is essential that you wear appropriate clothing.

Demand for places at our workshops is always high and places are strictly limited (issued on a first-come-first-served basis).

To secure your place, please e-mail Anna Fenton at anna.fenton@hse.gsi.gov.uk by 29 February 2012.

A copy of the programme for the day is attached.  Your booking will be confirmed prior to your attendance.
