Wildfire - the UK's largest Wildfire event

Wildfire, the UK's largest wildfire event, will be held for the fourth time on the 16th & 17th June 2009 in the New Forest.

On the 5th & 6th June 2007 over 135 delegates, speakers and exhibitors came together at Dalby Forest in the North York Moors National Park for Wildfire 2007, the UK’s largest ever Wildfire event. Wildfire 2007 was the third event of its kind in the UK, building on the success of similar events in 2003 and 2005, both of which were held at Army Training Estate Otterburn in partnership with Defence Estates and Forest Enterprise.  Both previous wildfire events attracted over 120 participants each, from the length and breadth of the UK, with speakers from as far afield as Catalonia and Washington DC.

The focus of the event was on the prevention, management and control of fires in the rural environment, particularly forests and moorlands.  The event attracted participants from fire services, national parks, emergency planners, nature reserve managers and rangers from across the UK, as well as speakers from the Met Office, Forest Research, University of Manchester, US Forest Service and the Peak District National Park Authority.

RDI acted as the organisers and hosts for the event, from planning the conference to promoting it and taking bookings along with setting up and running the conference. Our experienced and knowledgeable staff presented on RDI wildfire based projects and acted as workshop facilitators and stimulated discussion around topics presented at the conference. Delegate feedback included the following:

“excellent use of speakers"
"workshops were excellent"
"an excellent event that highlights the wealth of experience available"
"really worth 2 days out of the office, learned loads and networking was invaluable"
