Dave Clubb and Kasia Zielewska just returned from the BEn project meeting in Perugia (26-27.03.09), where 16 representatives from 7 European partner organisations came to discuss the current situation and the way forward for the project BEn (www.ben-project.eu).
BEn is RDI's newest bio-energy project aiming to develop an online GIS biomass energy register for the North East and to support the biomass supply chain with the developed tool. The project started in November 2008 with the identification of biomass networks and actors in the region. Kasia participated in the network meetings and introduced the project to biomass and renewable energy networks active in the North East.
In the next months the project emphasis will be put more on networking and the development of a regional concept for a biomass energy register. The structure of a GIS tool has to be agreed with the European partners and the data collection process will start locally.
We also aim to carry out a SWOT analysis focused on biomass energy in the North East by the end of June. We would like to involve local actors from the biomass sector in this process with the help of an online form which will be available soon.
