LandSkills North East

The LandSkills North East project brings a new focus on skills and knowledge transer for arable and livestock farming and trees and timber businesses in the North East of England.  The industries where businesses are eligible to benefit from Landskills are:

  •  Livestock - beef, sheep and dairy
  •  Other livestock - pigs and poultry
  •  Arable and non food crops
  •  Forestry
  •  Food - in relation to supply chain activity.

Northwoods is responsible for delivering the Trees, Timber and Forestry element of the LandSkills project across the North East of England.  For a list of courses that Northwoods will be delivering through this programme click here.

The programme will target owners, directors and managers in order to improve their business competitiveness.  LandSkills North East is run by a Steering Group, which is made up of business representatives and regional stakeholders, who will apply their practical experience and knowledge to steet the projec, commission training activity and champion the project.  The funding provided will be used to develop skills in:

  • Practical and technical livestock, crop and non-food crop husbandry
  • Management and business, including collaboration
  • Resource use, including waste reduction & management, water use, energy efficiency and bio-energy
  • Animal health and welfare 
  • Supply chain efficiency
  • Benchmarking
  • Climate change adaptation and mitigation
  • Environmental land management topics
  • Training for primary processing in the agricultural and forestry sectors
  • ICT and the use of other new technology specific to agriculture and forestry.
