Durham Woodland Revival Woodland Owner Event

29/11/2017

Event Details

As part of the Durham Woodland Revival project, this event is aimed at woodland owners, managers of woodland or people considering creating new areas of woodland in County Durham.  The project will collate information on current levels of woodland management and creation and determine how future support can be best tailored to assist landowners and managers to manage woodland and create new ones.  The project will operate across the 4 project areas which cover the Norther Denes (Chester le Street to Stanley), Southern Valleys (West of Durham), Wear Lowlands (Durham and down to Spennymoor) and Escarpment (East of Durham and down to Ferryhill).

Woodland cover in the county is low and much of it is neglected and undermanaged, which has led to a decline in wildlife, amenity and timber value.  The project aims to provide woodland and land owners with support for timber mobilisation, community and social forestry initiatives, biodiversity improvements, support with accessing Countryside Stewardship grants and funding for machinery and/or capital works.

This event is free of charge and lunch will be provided.

If you would like to book a place, please email Erica on erica.spencer@ruraldevelopment.org.uk.

The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is a partnership between Durham County Council, Woodland Trust, Forestry Commission and Northwoods.
