Northwoods was approached early in 2008 about hosting a three-month MSc student placement, following on from our previous successful placements. Those three months have now come to an end, and our placement, Katie, is about to graduate from Newcastle with her Masters degree in Clean Technology.
Katie has been working on the waste stream as a current and potential fuel source for the biomass sector. We look forward to promoting her dissertation, and hope that it will be of great interest to the biomass sector across the UK.
The placement was funded under the NEWHeat programme, which aims to lower the barriers to installation of biomass in the north east, particularly for businesses. Many of the enquiries received by the programme relate to the waste wood stream, which means that Katie’s placement and work is of direct relevance to the programme.
Previous placements at Northwoods have included a study on deer management, and on the biomass fuel supply chain.
