BEn, the RDI's and Northwoods newest bio-energy project aims to develop an online GIS (Geographic Information System) biomass energy register for the North East of England and to support a biomass supply chain in the region.
Project started in November 2008 with identification of biomass networks and actors in the region and with the introduction of the project to them. BEn is a 3 year European Project carried out by 7 project partners in 4 model regions in Poland, Germany, Italy and UK (North East of England).
In 2009 the emphasis is put on networking activities and development of a regional concept for the biomass energy register. The structure of a GIS tool is being developed together with the European partners and the data collection process for the North East biomass register starts locally. Parallel a SWOT analysis, which is meant to be a basis and initiation point for development of a regional Biomass Master Plan, is carried out in assistance of biomass stakeholders in the region.
If you are a biomass producer, biomass user, bio-energy producer, installer, interested individual or you represent an administrative or planning body in the North East you probably could benefit from the results of project BEn as it develops! Maps of biomass resources and demand, bio-energy installations location analysis tools and biomass companies’ directory are only few of the results that project BEn is aiming to achieve.
